The Romanian air force appears to have been remarkably unaffected both by the overthrow of the Ceasusescu regime and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. It has 32,000 men, 380 combat aircraft, and is typical of ex-Warsaw Pact air arms in its general obsolescence. It is also notable for its use of indigenous aircraft designs like the Orao.
